Tetraphobia (from Greek - tetras, "four" and - phobos, "fear") is an aversion to or fear of the number 4. It is a superstition most common in East Asian and Southeast Asian regions such as China, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, Korea and Vietnam.
The Chinese word for four (四, pinyin: sì), sounds quite similar to the word for death (死, pinyin: sǐ), in many varieties of Chinese. (Adapted/Abridged from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tetraphobia
